Another finish...

I made another blanket today, I really like these colors together. I used a wave stitch this time on my machine to topstitch the red and brown border. It's fun to try out different designs instead of always straight.

I went to the local quilt shop today and found some cute flannel fabric with cupcakes for the design, I must make that one next.

I'll be linking this to SewHappyGeek today.

Flannel receiving blanket

This morning, I made this tractor blanket. It has flannel on both sides and it is called a self-binding blanket because of the large border all the way around. For the top stitching, I used a stitch on my machine that is similar to a blanket stitch, not sure if that is visible in the top photo. I like this blanket, it's about 34 inches square, a nice size for a new baby. And I really like trying something new (like those mitered corners). I guess that's why this blog is all over the place!! I can't seem to stick to any one thing, I just bounce from project to project. So many fun things to make that I want to try them all!

One more....

Yesterday, I finished backing this top with chenille, so thought I would share it today. The colors are softer than I normally choose, but I thought it would make a nice girl blanket for a Mom who wants something a little different. Brown, blue and green are one of my favorite color combos, so I had lots in my stash to choose from. This little blankie will be added to my "for sale" bin, lots of ideas floating around in my head, hopefully will be able to get some of them done for Mayfair.

Vroom!

I have a baby shower to attend on Sunday and she knows her baby will be a boy. I had enough of this on the go fabric (plus stash items) to make 2 of these blankets. So, one for her and one for the fair! I love the deep turquoise minky chenille on the back of this, such a lovely color. These blankets are approximately 28 x 32 and are perfect for in the stroller/car seat etc. Warm, but not to heavy to drag around everywhere!

Fun blankie

In the process of making some more pieced chenille blankets. There is a fair coming up in May that I'm getting ready for, so be prepared to see more sewing in the near future!!

I'll be linking up to Sew Happy Geek and Canoe Ridge Creations today!

I just found a site called A Needle and Thread
that features Canadian bloggers from Tuesday-Thursday every week. You can link a blog about knitting, quilting, sewing etc. It's fun for me to find other Canadians in blogland-for some reason most of the blogs I follow are American or overseas- nothing wrong with that, just fun to see who else lives in the Maritimes and enjoys the same hobbies I do!

Birthday card

I will be visiting my sister-in-law tomorrow and needed to make her a birthday card. I wanted something fresh, modern and simple. So, hopefully she likes this card, not my usual style but I quite like it too. All stamps are SU!

Summer scarves

Last week was our school break, so I took the girls to my parents' in PEI for the week. We had a snowstorm while there, and were able to play in the snow a bit, almost a first this year as Halifax mainly had rain! Anyhow, I made a few scarves with my Mom's sewing machine. I especially like the top one, it matches everything! Looks great with yellow or a chocolate brown sweater. (I know this because big sister got to keep one and we had a mini fashion show with it!). Happy first day of Spring!

Another Organizer

I've made another organizer for my niece Maddy, and filled it with stationary. She loves paper products and making lists so I thought this would be perfect for her. I used another whimsy button (which happened to match perfectly I might add!). Anyhow, it will be semi-matching Claire's organizer which she loves as well.

2 cup day

My father-in-law will soon be 65, naturally I wanted to make him a special greeting card on this milestone birthday! I stamped the monkey(Stampendous) twice, once on white cardstock, once on patterned paper and fussy cut out the pj top. The inside reads "You weren't born yesterday. Obviously." Hope he likes it, my girls thought it was pretty funny.

Lime and blue Scarf

This fabric has a lot more texture to it than the previous one, so would be slightly warmer as well. I love the colors in this scarf, I think it would look great paired with a teal shirt and jeans!

Notepad Organizer

My firstborn daughter is turning 10 on Saturday (double digits!) so I made her this little notepad organizer. I found the pattern in the winter issue of Simple Quilts magazine. She loves the black polka dot fabric so I matched it up with some Heather Bailey pop fabric, and I think Michael Miller gray. I have one more to share tomorrow for her cousin who turns 11 next week.

The button on the front is handmade right here in Nova Scotia. The company is called My Little Bit of Whimsy and she has tons of cool buttons and scrapbook embellishments.

Spring Infinity Scarf

I've been wanting some new infinity scarves for spring, so thought I would try and make one today. This fabric is so lightweight, and pretty slippery! Definitely a little trickier than sewing with cotton. But, I love that it is soft, and so light it hardly feels like your wearing anything. I bought quite a bit of fabric yesterday, so I have a feeling I'll be posting a few more of these soon!

Whimsy Fairy

I saw this little fairy stamp the other day and just had to have her. I know spring is around the corner, but I thought she would be a cute winter/Christmas card and couldn't wait to color her with my prismacolor pencils. I used the ice white pearl pen for her fur, glitter ritz on the wand and in the background, red sakura glaze pen for the berries. (dang pen ran a bit outside the berry, last step, go figure). But I still think she's pretty cute!

Birthday Cards...

The above card is Bermuda breeze and pumpkin pie ink/paper, all supplies are SU! with exception of the embellishments. I totally cased this card from the January issue of Paper Crafts magazine because I thought it was so cute. They had it in pinks and blues but these are more "my" colors. A friend of mine is having a birthday today and it is for her-hope she doesn't see this before I run it over to her!!

This card will be sent to my Aunt in Montreal who was in the hospital for a short time. The image is a peel off sticker, colored in with sakura Glaze pens. The turquoise pearls on the embossed background are from a pearl pen.

Modern Mini Challenge

I finished my mini quilt last night, so thought I would share today. I mainly wanted to make this quilt to practice the blanket stitch on my sewing machine. Then I hand quilted with white perle cotton, size 8 around the dresses and clouds, the clothesline is navy hand quilting thread. Perle cotton is a little hard to source locally, I could only find neutral colors so far. The border was just scraps sewn together and attached to the sides, I didn't plan any of the colors first. I wanted something bright and fun-this was supposed to go in my laundry room, but I might need to put this in my sewing room instead. Ellison Lane quilts is having a mini challenge starting today through next Friday. I've decided to link this over to her blog, can't wait to see all the great minis that will be posted over the weekend.
