A Semi-Random pattern (a first for me!!)

Ok, so my quilts are usually very geometrically planned, or I follow a pattern etc.  I don't do much in random, or wonky-it's just now how my brain works.  So, I tried to go outside my usual and just started cutting up fabric and making hst blocks.  But, once I started laying out the top, I just wasn't feeling it-so if you look closely, you can see some pinwheels, flying geese, diamonds, etc.  Random, but not too random so that my brain is happy too!!

Super cute backing from Canadian designer Kate & Birdie Paper Co.

Look at that binding!!  It's from the Annali line- I purchased mine from Warp & Weft, but I think I got the last of the bold.  I wish I had more of it!!

And since it is Friday, I'll link up to Finish it up Fridays at Crazy Mom Quilts.  Have a great weekend all!!

Sorbet Plus Quilt

These colors remind me of orange and strawberry sorbet.  Fitting, that it is the first day of Fall, and so our sorbet days are coming to an end!

And for the back, I used the Kona's in a horizontal gradient from lightest to darkest.

I made this  quilt because I fell in love with the coral Kona fabric, so I
picked up others colors that co-ordinated and made a plus quilt.  I'm very happy with the end result-also, this is one of the first times I straight line quilt and don't have any puckers at the cross sections!!  Not sure what I did differently, maybe because I pin basted and spray basted.

Rainbow squares quilt finish!

I have the newest edition of Quilty magazine, and when I saw the pattern inside named Sparkle, I knew I had to make it.  I made mine slightly smaller, one less row, but I love how it turned out, and I love the binding.  I think I may adjust my Library Project List-I did, after all, make the list back in January and my how project ideas can change in the blink of an eye!

I'll be sharing this tonight at our Maritime Modern Quilt Guild meeting-we are meeting at a new modern fabric shop in Halifax called Patch.  7-9 pm, Sept. 11th, and all ar
e welcome to join us.

I'm linking this up today to The Needle and Thread Network, a great place to find other Canadian bloggers who are fiber artists.

It's Friday, so that means the linky party is up over at Crazy Mom Quilts!

Firefly Quilt Finish

I've been wanting to make a chevron quilt forever, and finally just set aside the time to do it.  I used some wee wander for the back and the fireflies/bees for the binding.  I may have to make this pattern again-it was on my list for Adrienne's Library Project (see side bar for link) so I am happy to say that I have 3/5 quilts finished that I planned to do back in January when the library project started.

I quilted on only the white, 1/4 inch on each side of that chevron.

Nautical Quilt

I can finally post about this cute nautical inspired navy and grey quilt that I finished up a month ago.  It is now with it's rightful owner, and I don't have to worry about spoiling her surprise!

I love the anchor print-so crisp.

And here is the entire quilt, it matches her nursery so well, and I'm so pleased for her.  Looking forward to her little boy being born!

Gray and Coral patchwork

I made this custom quilt for a lady who painted her nursery in gray with a coral/gray chevron on one wall.  It looks really cool.  So, stuck with mainly gray patches but wanted to put a coral square in most of the rows.  I'm happy with this one, I think it's pretty cute-and I broke from my routine and used medium gray from Kona instead of my usual Ash.

I opted for a narrow white border around the patchwork before the medium gray border-I think it needed that little bit of white in there to break up the grey.  Anyhow, this will be off to it's new owner soon-I hope her little girls enjoys it!

Twin quilt finish!

Pin ItI just put the last stitch in the binding last night, and washed and dried this quilt today.  It likely looks familiar from my WIP posts, but I'm so happy to have this done-I have the top of the matching twin quilt done, just need to quilt and bind it.  I can't wait to give this to the little girls Mom who ordered them-so cute.

I used pale pink Kona cotton for the back, a pale pink with white polka dots for the binding, and I used Aurafil Thread for the first time to quilt with and I loved it.  My stitches were even, sharp and the best I've ever seen my Pfaff work.  Definitely using it from now on.

Plus Quilt and The Library Challenge

Pin ItI missed the April link up for the Library Challenge-totally slipped my mind with the fair prep and all.  I finished another quilt top for the challenge, and I finished a toddler sized one today.  The plus quilt I made today was supposed to be a chevron quilt that I had down as part of the challenge, however, I felt that the fabric design would not look good as a chevron, and chose to do a plus instead.  I'm really happy with the design, super cute.  I found the pattern on the blog For the Love of George.

Twin size quilt tops for twin girls!!

So, not doing too badly on the quilting front.  I'll be linking up today with Adrienne for the Library Challenge and also Amanda Jean for Finish it up Friday.  Hope everyone has a great long weekend!

Sweets quilt top finished

This pattern is from the Simply Retro book-I love how it displays the beautiful fabric so well.  It's part of a set of 2 quilts that will adorn the twin beds of a set of twin girls!!  Now, just to figure out how to quilt it-and of course piece the back, baste, quilt and bind.  So, as good as it feels to have the top done, I'm far from finished yet!

I'm sharing this WIP today with The Needle and Thread Network and Lee over at Freshly Pieced.

The Library Project Update

Pin ItHere we are, time for the monthly Library Project check in, (see button on sidebar for details).  I have completed the top of my first quilt on the list-the pattern is from Allison Harris's book Growing Up Modern.  I just love the colors, and am pleased with how it all came together.  I have the fabric cut for my next twin sized quilt, and the chevron quilt fabric is chosen as well.

I love this!  Just have to figure out how to quilt it!!

It's WIP Wednesday at The Needle and Thread Network, and with Lee at Freshly Pieced.  I finally have a large quilt to share, so I'm linking to both of these sites today!

Scrappy elephant patchwork

I finished hand stitching the binding on this last night-it is a quilt for the founder of the East Coast Momma Collective-Sarah Dhooge.  She is pregnant with her 2nd baby boy and gave me a list of colors she likes and this is what I came up with it.  I picked the elephant fabric first, and took complimenting colors from there.

I had 2 extra strips, so added those to the back along with Kona Ash, an orange, teal and chartreuse (sorry, I didn't look at the names of the Kona's-I don't have them all memorized like some people I know ;)

I did straight lines, corner to corner for the quilting with a light grey thread.

Newborn photography props

I started off the New Year at my sewing machine!  I haven't sewed anything over the holidays and I have been anxious to get this little project started and finished!  I had an order from a photographer for a mini quilt for her newborn sessions and so we decided on yellow and white for the first one.
I'm using my daughter's doll bed for my photo prop, but hers' will be much cuter little babies!
Pin ItI just did a cross hatch pattern for my quilting and backed it with a soft grey flannel with white polka dots so she can use the reverse too if she wants.

Happy New Year All!!

Rainbow Square Quilt Love!

I had a custom order for a baby quilt and was absolutely dying to use this pattern by Allison Harris.  I bought her book Simply Modern a few months ago and this one caught my eye right away.  I love this-may have to make this pattern again.  So fun, and bright and baby neutral.
Here is the back.  It was ordered by a wonderful photographer in Cape Breton (Shoshanna Fraser) and I thought she could use the reverse of the quilt for newborn shots if I kept it pretty simple but with a splash of patterned fabric.  I took the leftover strips and pieced the binding as well.
Pin ItFirst day of school for my girls, they are happy with their classes, finished quilt, sun is out and just had my coffee.  Good day thus far.

A special gift..

My girls and I visited my family this week in PEI, to celebrate the last long weekend of summer, and also to help my Mom quilt a gift for her grandson,(my nephew) Ryan.  We chose the fabrics together over the winter, and she made the top.  I went home to help baste, quilt, and sew on the binding.  I'm really happy with the colors-he's 15 and so more of a masculine quilt than a  boyish one.  I spoke with Mom today and she has the entire binding slipstitched already!
Pin ItWe took the girls to the Exhibition as well in Abrams Village- I thought this flower arrangement was so beautiful and colorful that I wanted to share it with you!  Hope everyone enjoyed their last long weekend of summer.

Bow-tie quilt re-do

Pin ItSome of you may recognize this quilt from one I did last year, I had a photographer request the same quilt to use for her baby shoots.  I made it a square instead of a rectangle as I think that would be better to sit the baby in the middle for a photo.  This is so fun and bright, and I think it's a wonderful idea to use this as a prop.  I have a decent size custom order list to work through right now, so will be busy for a little while completing it.  I do plan on taking a sewing/blogging break for part of July though, time to spend with the family and not have my brain thinking of what I should be sewing!!
This quilt was inspired by one I saw on the Blue Elephant Stitches blog, and the square is a tutorial from Cluck Cluck Sew.

I'll be sharing this at Randi's Show and Tell Tuesday and also at Fabric Tuesday at Quiltstory.
